31 October 2008

Now that the clocks are back and the evenings are drawing in, my habitual evening pass-time of watching trains brush past my window is getting more difficult. So, after some head-scratching, I’ve come up with a few ways of keeping myself busy until it’s a reasonable time for me to get excited about Christmas again.

Movember

I’m not going to lie. The prospect of dappering myself up with a slick moustache appeals to me. And having the excuse of a good cause for when it all goes wrong? Perfect.

If you’re a sucker for punishment, and want to see something truly frightening, I’ll be posting photos to this here Flickr set. If you want to donate to a good cause, well, that’s okay with me. Do it here.

Running my first (and completely unofficial) marathon

I’m troubled by the way that Germany shuts down on Sundays. It’s not right, and it makes it very hard for those of us without TV, internet, or enough good sense to learn German properly to fill a weekend. So, on Sunday 23rd November, my moustache and I will be staging the why-not-open-on-Sundays marathon, and running round in circles until we collapse.

Much like a certain country’s retail sector circling the drain because they don’t open on Sundays. Cutting, hmm?

Writing a novel

And finally, because I am a competitive sort and my girlfriend has been writing a book for years, I will write a book in a month. Granted, hers is almost twice as long as mine will be and involves things like research, intelligence, and, well, effort, but first to market is first to market. And I’m pretty sure mine will have more explosions.
